So much going on

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

I haven’t felt like blogging much. Probably because I have so much going on. I started freelance programming. I’m finishing up the semester at school. And I’m doing websites for some friends.

Needless to say, not much knitting going on right now. Heck, I just need to graft the toe closed on a sock and I’d have an FO. I’m hoping that after this week I’ll get a little more time. This is finals week a college, so it’s been a time sucker.

I’ve been really enjoying the contract programming I’m doing. It’s web stuff (my favorite) and it involves Google Maps. It’s been challenging and interesting. What more could you want?

On the fitness front, I’m managing about 4-5 workouts per week. Last week was an exception as I developed a cold and only worked out 1 day. I finished up the November 2007 Turbulence Training for Mass and Fat Loss (and saw some significant upper body strength gains). This month I’m kicking it old school with the November 2006 Female Strength workout. Pretty basic stuff in it and it just alternates 2 workouts instead of 3. I kind of prefer the 3 different lifting routines a week. Just from a boredom perspective.

Back from the land of new computers

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

So I’ve been dealing with setting up a new computer at work (twice) and a new one at home. Doing both was enough to put me off my blogging schedule for a while.

I just finished up the November Turbulence Training workout for Mass and Fat Loss. Yesterday I was rolling around on a foam roller and my husband said I was looking mighty buff. Guess I put some mass on my arms. I know I’m stronger in my upper body. I’m able to go lower in a pushup and I’ve increased the number of real pushups I can do. I really have to work hard on that exercise. It’s just an incredibly difficult move for me.

In knitting news…I am almost done with the copper socks. I just have to graft the toe closed and I’ll have me a new pair of socks. I cast on for a new hat too. I need a hat and scarf now that winter is really upon us. I used to have LONG hair and lots of it. The birth of my boy prompted me to cut most of it off. So now I don’t have 18 inches of stuff covering my head and neck, keeping me warm. I’ll have substitute with some wool.

Corn is not a vegetable

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I have a disturbing addiction to … candy corn. Like I tell my husband all the time: “Corn is not a vegetable.” Candy Corn is especially not a vegetable. Thank god it’s only here for a few weeks every year.

Tonight we’re taking the boy around to show him off for Halloween. We’re dressing him up as a hockey player. A Canadian hockey player. That’s almost sacrilege here in Red Wing territory. But one of Sam’s grandmas found the suit a garage sale this summer and it will be really cute. We were going to do a ghost costume, but Bill thought the hockey player would be better and/or easier. Probably easier.

Lunch Intervals
32 min - 8 60/60 Intervals, the balance as steady state cardio. 2 Min cool down.

Change of Plans

Friday, September 14th, 2007

I am now going to Chicago with Bill on Sunday. His friend was supposed to go with him, but life intervened and he is unable to attend. Bill hates to travel alone, so Sam and I will keep him company. We have to leave by 5 AM! Now, that isn’t really a problem for me because I actually get up that early on a regular basis. However, Bill is a slow and late riser.

So, I think I will make some beer early Saturday morning. Then I’ll do my weekly cleaning and make apple crisp and jalapeño humus to take to a cookout. THEN, if I have time left I will try to dye some yarn.

Morning - 30 Min Step Aerobics, Turbulence Training Ab Workout A
Lunch
DB Step ups - 16.25
Incline Press - 30

I’m not dead

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I have been sick with a pretty persistent cold. It developed last Thursday afternoon and I’m still pretty congested. Made for a kind of crummy Labor Day.

I named the the company: TBS Web Solutions. That would be Tonya, Bill, Sam. Or Tonya Bednarick Services. However you want to look at it.

I am pretty much an introvert and am happiest when I’m knitting or working on the computer. In order to help make my new venture a success, I’ve hired a coach. Shann Vander Leek owns True Balance Life Coaching and is an amazing woman and friend. She led a very successful sales team in the competitive world of TV advertising sales for over ten years before starting her company. I think working with such a successful woman will help me come out of my shell and make the contacts in this community to have a successful web development company.

I pretty much didn’t work out much in the last week. Tuesday I did about 20 minutes of pilates and stretching. Yesterday I went for a 20 minute walk. Had to get back to it today, even though I am still congested and coughing. A week off makes my back hurt.

I took it easy today (kind of). Went a little lighter on the weights and didn’t push too hard.

This Morning
30 Min Cathe KickMax Drills + Abs and stretch

Lunch
DB Stepups 15lbs
DB Incline Press 25lbs

Wide grip seated row 60lbs
Single Leg Ball Curl

!@#$% Hosting Provider!

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

This week has been a tough one. I asked my hosting provider to fix an installation of some software they provide. In doing so they broke the blogging software that I installed myself. I installed Movable Type years ago before they provided a free blogging tool and have been running it without any problems.

After they fixed the software they provided, I got the following error when trying to access the MovableType control panel:

Got an error: Can’t locate object method “instance” via package “Apache::Request” at lib/MT/App.pm line 174.

Eventually I figured out they needed to reinstall mod_perl and Apache::Request, but they were all like “We don’t support customer installed software”. But THEY broke it! And since I am a c# developer, not perl or php or that unix stuff, I had to dig up skills I haven’t used in like 4 years. Sheesh.

No workout today. We had a team lunch to celebrate the release of the latest version of our software. We all got nifty hats with our names embroidered on them. Yay for us.

Wednesday
Wow, I was feeling really tired Wednesday. I think the running on Tuesday contributed to that. I started into my warmup and thought…hmm, this sucks. I kept going though. Skipped the intervals.

Crazy Birds

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Bill put up a bird feeder about a month ago. Well last week they finally found it. After a couple of days we heard a loud thump of a small bird hitting the big picture window, quickly followed by an even louder thump. The louder thump was the hawk pictured below. It knocked itself out chasing some smaller bird. We think it’s a female American Kestrel Hawk, aka Sparrow Hawk.

Hawaii Baby

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Bill and I are going to Hawaii for a week. My dad lives out there and we’re doing the ghetto vacation yet again and staying with him. I haven’t seen him in EIGHT years! Dad moved to Hawaii seven years ago and this will be the first time we’ve been out there. I don’t think Bill’s seen him since we got married 14 years ago.

We repotted and moved all the seedlings outside yesterday afternoon. We made mini greenhouses out of clear corrugated plastic. Hopefully they’ll be good while we’re gone. It’s really supposed to warm up while we’re gone. Hope so! It snowed on Sunday and we’ve had frost the last two nights. The spot where we put the plants is well protected and there was no frost out there this morning even though it was only 30 degrees.

We checked on our asparagus planting and we’ve got some shoots coming up! So exciting. Too bad it will be a couple of years before we can eat any.
