I can hardly believe it’s been a year since I gave birth! Sam had is 1st birthday the day after Christmas. The year has flow by and at the same time, he changed so much! He’s walking now. He has five teeth. He can play by himself for a little while at a time. He’s developing his own awesome personality. And of course, he’s the cutest boy ever. In my opinion :)

I kept up with my workouts pretty well over the Christmas break…1 weightlifting workout, 1 interval workout and 1 yoga workout. Bill got me a gift certificate to a local yoga studio for Christmas. They have a lunchtime yoga class that I’ll be taking after the new year. I’m looking forward to it.

Hmmph

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

It seems like every other week or so I am unmotivated to go to the gym. This started out as one of those weeks. Yesterday I was STARVING and couldn’t make myself go because I needed to eat.

Today I was just unmotivated. I went anyway and all the way through my warm up I was scheming about ways to shorten the workout and get out quicker. By the time I got to the real workout, though, I just kept going. Sometimes you just have to keep going when you don’t want to, I guess.

Saturday

Sunday
50 Min Yoga

You don’t love me and guilt trips

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Yesterday, I had to skip my lunchtime workout in order to finish up some work for a final exam. I also skipped my morning freelancing in order to get everything done in time.

I’ve been dealing with some lower back pain lately that is purely induced by my increased hours in front of a computer and my decreased mobility work (AKA yoga) and stretching. Therefore, the 45 minutes I spend at the gym on my lunch hour is extremely important to me (except when I’m feeling like a lazy butt).

This morning, I was chatting with my husband, who is now a stay at home dad, and he mentioned making the 50 trek into the city to have lunch with me and go to Target in search of one of those baby gate play pens. Ah, the guilt, the agony I put on myself. My back hurts…I want to workout…but he wants my time too.

Here’s a transcript of the exchange:

Tonya: I don’t want to seem like I wouldn’t like have lunch with you, but I didn’t get to workout yesterday because I had to do homework on my lunch hour, and my back is telling me I need to workout. It’s twitching.

Bill: you don’t love me wahhhhh

I know he was completely joking, but I felt the guilt before he even teased me. This is what we women put on ourselves. We don’t need to give up all our plans because someone else wants our time. I tell myself this over and over. I really struggle with this. I’m proud that I squashed the guilt bug and stuck up for my needs today. Hopefully it will make it easier the next time.

So much going on

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

I haven’t felt like blogging much. Probably because I have so much going on. I started freelance programming. I’m finishing up the semester at school. And I’m doing websites for some friends.

Needless to say, not much knitting going on right now. Heck, I just need to graft the toe closed on a sock and I’d have an FO. I’m hoping that after this week I’ll get a little more time. This is finals week a college, so it’s been a time sucker.

I’ve been really enjoying the contract programming I’m doing. It’s web stuff (my favorite) and it involves Google Maps. It’s been challenging and interesting. What more could you want?

On the fitness front, I’m managing about 4-5 workouts per week. Last week was an exception as I developed a cold and only worked out 1 day. I finished up the November 2007 Turbulence Training for Mass and Fat Loss (and saw some significant upper body strength gains). This month I’m kicking it old school with the November 2006 Female Strength workout. Pretty basic stuff in it and it just alternates 2 workouts instead of 3. I kind of prefer the 3 different lifting routines a week. Just from a boredom perspective.

Monday
Pullups 6@ Level 14
DB Split Squats 26.25 lbs
Pushups 8 (On the toes, YEEHAW)
Single Leg RDL

Tuesday
6 60/60 Intervals + 10 High Intensity Cardio
Ab rollouts on the ball 3×12
Back Extensions on the ball 3×12

Ouch

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Yesterday I did the second workout in the new Muscle Mass and Fat Loss plan I am following. This work had more leg exercises than I am used to doing. All I can say is ouch. Just nine hours later as I was lying in bed falling asleep, I knew I would wake up with DOMS. It was already setting in. That’s pretty unusual for me. It normally takes 24 hours for the hurting to commence.

Lunch Yesterday
1A) Legs 25 lb dumbbells
1B) Abs Swiss Ball

2A) Legs 1 10lb dumbbell
2B) Legs 1 25lb dumbbell

3A) Legs 26 lb Kettlebell
3B) Shoulders 10 lbs, then 8 lbs

Lunch Today
30 Min Intervals

Corn is not a vegetable

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I have a disturbing addiction to … candy corn. Like I tell my husband all the time: “Corn is not a vegetable.” Candy Corn is especially not a vegetable. Thank god it’s only here for a few weeks every year.

Tonight we’re taking the boy around to show him off for Halloween. We’re dressing him up as a hockey player. A Canadian hockey player. That’s almost sacrilege here in Red Wing territory. But one of Sam’s grandmas found the suit a garage sale this summer and it will be really cute. We were going to do a ghost costume, but Bill thought the hockey player would be better and/or easier. Probably easier.

Lunch Intervals
32 min - 8 60/60 Intervals, the balance as steady state cardio. 2 Min cool down.

Lost Cow, Sock Knitting, New Program

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Yesterday I left work early to go to a dr. appointment (nothing serious) which gave me about 1/2 to work on the Copper Sock. I finished the decreases for the instep and knit about an inch. We’re on the home stretch baby!

When I got home, Bill, Sam and I were going to go for a walk when the door bell rang. Evidently a neighbor lost a cow and they though it might wander over to see our cows. Sure enough…we walked out back and along came a pretty herford heifer. After chasing her around for about 10 minutes Bill managed to lasso her and it took 3 guys to walk her out of the field and tie her to a truck to get her to walk home. She was stubborn about it the WHOLE way. We did get a nice walk in while following the cow home.

Today I started a new Turbulence Training program…Turbulence Training for Mass and Fat Loss from the Turbulence Training Members website. This is the new November program. I considered starting a longer plan, but I think I’ll save it for the new year. I’m gonna stick with these short 4 week plans until then.

Lunch
TT for Mass and Fat Loss Day 1 Week 1

BB Bench Press 75
BB Deadlift 75

DB Incline Press 30
DB Row 30

Kneeling Pushups 20
Blast Strap Inverted Row 15
(Ouch, did an extra set here)

Yay for me

Friday, October 26th, 2007

This weekend is shaping up to be busy. At least for Bill. He plans to go workout with the Silat people on Saturday and also finish running the PEX for our new outdoor wood boiler. We bought a Woodmaster 5500. He’s done all the work to install it to our existing systems with a little help from his dad. Just a little more work and our heat and hot water will be provided by wood at a substantial savings over propane.

Sunday is chicken processing day again. Big fun there. The forecast is calling for 49 and rainy with possible snow the night before. Yucko.

I’ve got some homework for school and continuing web development projects to work on. Last weekend, Bill was out of town and I managed to write most of a web app for a local food coop while the boy was asleep. This week’s work is a little more challenging.

Today was intervals and I didn’t wuss out. 6 running intervals outside. My calves are killing me from Tuesday’s run, so this one was NO FUN. I think I’ll do some yoga with lots of down dogs tomorrow to stretch them out.

Wrapping Up TT for Abs

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Yesterday was supposed to be my last lifting day on my current program. I only got about 1/2 the workout in though. There was a guy working the front desk at the gym that I recognized as a Silat teacher in our area. We met once about 5 years ago at a seminar.

So I asked him if he was who I thought he was…and he was. We then chatted for at least 20 minutes about martial arts, Bill’s and my former instructor, etc. Well, the long and short of it is that he invited Bill to work out with his group which is perfect, cause Bill has been pretty much on his own most of the time since the club closed.

But all the chatting cut into my workout time. I got the first two supersets done and returned today to finish up. I thought I’d still be able to get my intervals in but nope…I’ll have to do them tomorrow. I will probably do intervals on Saturday as well…we’ll see.
