I’m feeling some twinges in my feet and knees. I think I need different shoes for lifting heavy at the gym. Conversely, I would like to be able to use what ever I choose on the treadmill or elliptical so I wouldn’t have to stop and change shoes in the middle of my workout. It’s a dilemma!

Morning

Turbulence Training Week 8 Day 2

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Weight 166. Woot! Although I know some of this is probably due to not lifting since Friday, it is a new low. I always retain a couple of pounds of water if I’m lifting regularly. Thats OK, I can accept it. I do want to get to 164 (with the water weight) by the end of June. June 26 to be exact. That’s what I weighed before I got pregnant and on June 26th I will be 6 months post partum. I know I can do it. I just have to cut out some of the evening snacking. Breastfeeding is kind of magic that way. You would not believe the quantity of food I can eat now and still lose weight!

Another thing…before I got pregnant, I was (gasp) a smoker. So this means I’ve also successfully quit smoking (cold turkey, the day I found out) without excessive weight gain. I have promised myself that I will NEVER smoke again, not only for me, but for my son. I don’t want to set that example for him. A big reason I smoked was my inability to deal with confrontation and my former boss is no longer with the company. He was the one I had conflicts with…me and everyone else in the company. It’s amazing the difference in atmosphere here since he left. We now have a nice, sane, rational boss.

Whew. I don’t know if it’s the heat and humidity or what, but I was really feeling it in the gym today. I had to take lots time between sets for fear of puking.

Weekend Report

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

WooHoo. I ran my first 5k race on Monday. My time was a 34:47. (11 min 11 sec/mile) Yeah, yeah, slow I know. I kept pace with an older gentleman and I had to laugh at myself. He was old and had an ankle brace on. I just have to say…running kind of sucks, but mentally, I feel really proud of myself for doing it. Kind of makes me feel “hardcore”.

At the last minute Bill decided to go too…in his combat boots, wool socks, LONG cargo shorts and polo. Pushing Sam in a non-jogging stroller. He ran most of the way and came in 15 seconds after me. Impressive. It was a Run, Walk, Rollerblade event and there were a ton of young girls. There’s an organization called Girls on the Run and they had lots of girls running. Very cool.

Saturday
Yoga 25 min

Sunday
Gardening

Monday
5k
30 min hike in the woods behind Bills parents house to go look at the deer feed plot his brother planted.

Today
TT Phase 1 Core Workout B
25 Min AM Stretch. Had to cut it short cause I ran out of time. I don’t know why I never do this stretching routine. I really liked it this morning. It had a nice blend of static and dynamic stretches and some great calf stretches.

Turbulence Training Week 8 Day 1

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Today marks the 1 day of the last week of this TT phase. After next week I’m taking a recovery week. I’ll be doing some jogging and yoga though.

Next week is going to be kind of weird. Monday is Memorial Day and I am keeping my commitment to myself to run a 5k before the end of May. On Tuesday our intern returns from MIT. He’s been saving up stories to tell us all year and that boy can talk! It will be fun seeing him again and I expect to go to lunch with the gang on Tuesday & Thursday. So that will leave Wednesday and Friday for finishing up this phase of TT. That will also get me back on track for workouts starting on Monday.

I joined the Turbulence Training Members site today. Craig will be raising the price on June 1st and was offering some great extras this month. I purchased the monthly plan. A quick peak at the forums and articles leaves me impressed! I know I’ll be spending some time this weekend poking around some more.

Morning
TT Phase 1 Core Workout A
Held both the regular planks and side planks for 60 seconds. Damn those are tough Did I say a couple of weeks ago that I didn’t think the core workouts were all that challenging? I retract that statement.

BB Romanian Deadlift 3×8x85

Reverse Grip Seated Row 3×8x65

Turbulence Training Week 7 Day 3

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I have a meeting in 6 minutes, so I’ll keep this short, just like my workout

Walk 3 minutes
TT Warmup

BB Squat 8×45, 8×55, 4×85, 4×75, 2×8x80
Lat pull down 8×50, 8×60

DB Split Squat 1×8x30

I think I could handle more on the split squats, but my hands can’t hold any more.

Had to cut the workout short due to time constraints.

Morning
TT Phase 1 Core workout B
Held the side planks for a full minute on both sides! No regular planks scheduled today

Karen Voight Sleek Physique Stretch 25 Min

I was supposed to go to lunch with a friend today, but she had to reschedule. I didn’t bring any workout gear with me to work today but I did pack a lunch. I might go for a walk just to get some fresh air but the shoes I’m wearing aren’t the best for any lengthy walks. I wore them around the block the other day and by the time we were 80% around, my toes were killing me. They also tend to give me blisters. I know, excuses, excuses. I will go for a walk and I will enjoy it!

Lunch Update

I recruited a Co-Worker and we walked down to Lake Michigan and along the shore for a total of 45 minutes. It really warmed up today! It was 81 degrees at 12:45. Considering it was like 50 yesterday, that’s a huge jump.

Turbulence Training Week 7 Day 2

Monday, May 21st, 2007

My legs were still feeling a little soar from Fridays workout and DrillMax, but I soldiered on. Actually, after the warmup, most of the soarness had dissipated. I was feeling kind of intimidated by the 75 bench press and thinking I wouldn’t be able to complete all the reps. Each set was tough, but I focused on imagining my muscles pushing the weight up and up it went without any breaks. Yay me.

There were some new people in the gym today, so that was nice to see.

TT warmup
Specific Warmup

BB Bench Press 8×75, 8×75, 8×75
BB Romanian Deadlift 3×8x75

1.5 Mile walk with the boy in the stroller and Bill (on our mildly hilly dirt road)

Sunday

Turbulence Training Week 7 Day 1

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Today I returned to the gym. The place was empty except for me and this guy I’ve known for years…I used to work for him when he owned a software startup. When I first joined this gym, I groaned internally when I first saw him there. I’m over it though. I used to actively dislike him, now I find him an amusing dumbass. He’s kind of entertaining.

I hope things pick up for the new owner of the gym cause I really like this place.

Walk 3 minutes
TT Warmup

BB Squat 8×45, 8×55, 3×8x70
Lat pull down 8×50, 8×60
Assisted Chins 3×8x100 lbs assist

DB Split Squat 3×8x25
DB Incline Press 3×8x25

I kept the weights the same (or in the case of the chins, more assistance) as last time. I’m still pretty congested, but I’m feeling good. I didn’t want to push it to hard after that horrid cold.

Turbulence Training

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

No workouts so far this week. I started getting a sore throat Saturday afternoon (luckily after we finished putting in the veggie garden) and it developed into a full blown head cold by Sunday. I even took two days off of work. That’s the first time in two years that I’ve had to call in sick! I never even called in sick when I was pregnant.

My gym saga has resolved itself. New owners took over this week and will honor the 10 months remaining on my contract. Also, I simply don’t have the extra $125 to take advantage of the other gyms offer. So, I’ll be working out by myself for the next 10 months. Not that that is a big deal. Once I start the work out I’m not much of a chatter, but it was fun to chat on the way to and from and in the locker room.

So, hopefully I’ll recover from this cold soon and can get back to working out. Today is certainly better than yesterday. No chills, not much nose blowing, not much sneezing, etc.
