I can hardly believe it’s been a year since I gave birth! Sam had is 1st birthday the day after Christmas. The year has flow by and at the same time, he changed so much! He’s walking now. He has five teeth. He can play by himself for a little while at a time. He’s developing his own awesome personality. And of course, he’s the cutest boy ever. In my opinion :)

I kept up with my workouts pretty well over the Christmas break…1 weightlifting workout, 1 interval workout and 1 yoga workout. Bill got me a gift certificate to a local yoga studio for Christmas. They have a lunchtime yoga class that I’ll be taking after the new year. I’m looking forward to it.

Let me tell you how much Apress and SitePoint books rock. They publish their books in an encrypted PDF format that you can buy online with a few clicks and download it instantly. I for one an tired of lugging around 10 pound technical reference manuals that are now out of date for the most part.

O’Reiley and Wrox are trying with their subscription services but those are kind of pricey. Wrox fails miserably by only offering a select group of titles. O’Reilly has everything available, but Damn! Expensive.

December 18th, 2007

It seems like every other week or so I am unmotivated to go to the gym. This started out as one of those weeks. Yesterday I was STARVING and couldn’t make myself go because I needed to eat.

Today I was just unmotivated. I went anyway and all the way through my warm up I was scheming about ways to shorten the workout and get out quicker. By the time I got to the real workout, though, I just kept going. Sometimes you just have to keep going when you don’t want to, I guess.

Saturday
30 Min Yoga

Sunday
50 Min Yoga

Monday
Rest day :)

Tuesday
Assisted Pullups, 70lbs assist (woot! personal record)
DB Split Squats 30lbs
Pushups, 9 On the toes

Copper Diamond Socks

December 18th, 2007

Finally! An FO!

We dropped the little guy off at grandmas for a couple of hours on Sunday and I had a few minutes to sit down and finish the Copper Diamond Socks.

These are made from Socks That Rock yarn purchased at a Michigan Fiber Festival 3 or 4 years ago. I cast on 56 stitches and created a diamond pattern with purl bumps. They are just a tiny bit big, but not enough to bother me.

Going strong into the weekend

December 14th, 2007

I got home last night and Bill and I were chatting and I told him about yesterday’s guilt for not going to lunch with him. He said “Why did you feel guilty? I went to lunch with Brian and had a great time. I’d rather have lunch with you, but it’s no big deal”.

Like I said, I put these feelings on myself.

Today is our company Christmas lunch party. This will probably involve stopping at a bar and having a drink or two. I’m still off dairy because Sam is sensitive to it so I’ll have to pass up the yummy desserts unless they are clearly dairy free. Not much chance of that. I’ll have to make due with a drink or two.

Yesterday I had to skip the final superset because the Silat guy was at the desk again, and man, can he talk. Almost as much as my husband. Blah, blah, blah! Dude! I just want to say “Hi, how’s it going” and get my workout in! Limited time here! I skipped lunch with my husband so I could talk with you? I don’t think so!

I worked out this morning instead of at lunch because of the party today. I did bodyweight circuits for my HIIT and added on yesterday’s final superset.

Thursday
Bodyweight Rows 12
One legged deadlift 8
DB Stepups 16.25 lbs (heavier next time)
Swiss Ball Crunch with med ball 4KG

Friday
Bodyweight circuits X 3
Close grip pushups
One armed Kettlebell swings
Pushups
Two armed Kettlebell swings

Superset
Swiss Ball Jackknife
Swiss Ball Hip Extension, Leg Curl (gasp, these are almost easy now, need to drop the reps and do them with a single leg)

Yesterday, I had to skip my lunchtime workout in order to finish up some work for a final exam. I also skipped my morning freelancing in order to get everything done in time.

I’ve been dealing with some lower back pain lately that is purely induced by my increased hours in front of a computer and my decreased mobility work (AKA yoga) and stretching. Therefore, the 45 minutes I spend at the gym on my lunch hour is extremely important to me (except when I’m feeling like a lazy butt).

This morning, I was chatting with my husband, who is now a stay at home dad, and he mentioned making the 50 trek into the city to have lunch with me and go to Target in search of one of those baby gate play pens. Ah, the guilt, the agony I put on myself. My back hurts…I want to workout…but he wants my time too.

Here’s a transcript of the exchange:

Tonya: I don’t want to seem like I wouldn’t like have lunch with you, but I didn’t get to workout yesterday because I had to do homework on my lunch hour, and my back is telling me I need to workout. It’s twitching.

Bill: you don’t love me wahhhhh

I know he was completely joking, but I felt the guilt before he even teased me. This is what we women put on ourselves. We don’t need to give up all our plans because someone else wants our time. I tell myself this over and over. I really struggle with this. I’m proud that I squashed the guilt bug and stuck up for my needs today. Hopefully it will make it easier the next time.

So much going on

December 12th, 2007

I haven’t felt like blogging much. Probably because I have so much going on. I started freelance programming. I’m finishing up the semester at school. And I’m doing websites for some friends.

Needless to say, not much knitting going on right now. Heck, I just need to graft the toe closed on a sock and I’d have an FO. I’m hoping that after this week I’ll get a little more time. This is finals week a college, so it’s been a time sucker.

I’ve been really enjoying the contract programming I’m doing. It’s web stuff (my favorite) and it involves Google Maps. It’s been challenging and interesting. What more could you want?

On the fitness front, I’m managing about 4-5 workouts per week. Last week was an exception as I developed a cold and only worked out 1 day. I finished up the November 2007 Turbulence Training for Mass and Fat Loss (and saw some significant upper body strength gains). This month I’m kicking it old school with the November 2006 Female Strength workout. Pretty basic stuff in it and it just alternates 2 workouts instead of 3. I kind of prefer the 3 different lifting routines a week. Just from a boredom perspective.

Monday
Pullups 6@ Level 14
DB Split Squats 26.25 lbs
Pushups 8 (On the toes, YEEHAW)
Single Leg RDL

Tuesday
6 60/60 Intervals + 10 High Intensity Cardio
Ab rollouts on the ball 3×12
Back Extensions on the ball 3×12

Hello world!

December 6th, 2007

Looks like I have succesfully migrated to a new server and all shiney new blog software.  Yay me.

We’ve been wanting to get a new host for a while now.  When they notified us only 10 days before expiration that we needed to pay up, I figured it was time.

I was using Moveable Type, but I have to say, WordPress is rocking so far.  Love it.

So I’ve been dealing with setting up a new computer at work (twice) and a new one at home. Doing both was enough to put me off my blogging schedule for a while.

I just finished up the November Turbulence Training workout for Mass and Fat Loss. Yesterday I was rolling around on a foam roller and my husband said I was looking mighty buff. Guess I put some mass on my arms. I know I’m stronger in my upper body. I’m able to go lower in a pushup and I’ve increased the number of real pushups I can do. I really have to work hard on that exercise. It’s just an incredibly difficult move for me.

In knitting news…I am almost done with the copper socks. I just have to graft the toe closed and I’ll have me a new pair of socks. I cast on for a new hat too. I need a hat and scarf now that winter is really upon us. I used to have LONG hair and lots of it. The birth of my boy prompted me to cut most of it off. So now I don’t have 18 inches of stuff covering my head and neck, keeping me warm. I’ll have substitute with some wool.
